Problems installing Delphi 1 after Delphi 2

Description
Reported by Co de Kleuver
I had just received my delphi 2 upgrade and loaded delphi2 first, all went well until I loaded delphi 1 which placed all its icons into the delphi 2 window thus filling this with both version's icons, many of which are not labeled whether they are version 1 or 2.
(It may be possible to avoid this by explicitly chosing a different program group / folder name for the Delphi 1 icons, RPS)
A complete uninstall and re install did not fix it. Eventually I re-installed delphi 1 first then cleared out all files remaining in delphi 2 directories and re-installed delphi 2 which fixed it.

Installation may fail if disk space is low on drive which is indicated by the TEMP environment variable.

Description
Reported by Ken Downling
The drive to which the WIN environment parameter TEMP points, must have some MB of space available. At least 2.5MB and perhaps up to 10MB.
Solution / workaround
Temporarily change the SET TEMP pointer in AUTOEXEC.BAT if necessary.

Missing DLLs on LAN installation.

Description
If you check the LAN Installation checkbox during the Delphi installation process, many DLLS (and their supporting help and configuration programs) do not seem to be installed.
Solution / workaround
These DLLs are placed in the \DELPHI\WINSYS\ directory. This is to allow LAN administrators to place these files in each user's \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory. The files must be copied there before Delphi will function properly. Care should be taken to not overwrite newer versions of these files. You may find the DOS program REPLACE.EXE useful in accomplishing this.

Delphi overwrites existing GAUGE.VBX file.

Description
Delphi installs a VBX named GAUGE.VBX in the Windows SYSTEM directory. This GAUGE.VBX is a commonly used name, and is often incompatible with other VBXs with this name. Most notably, Netcom's Netcruiser software will not run if Delphi overwrites it's GAUGE.VBX file.
Solution / workaround
Make a backup of the existing GAUGE.VBX file before installing Delphi. If you have already installed Delphi, it will be necessary to reinstall the software that is no longer functioning correctly. You may be able to avoid reinstallation by manually extracting the GAUGE.VBX file from installation disks if you are familiar with the EXPAND.EXE utility.

Can't install on NexGen 586 system.

Description
Reported by Neil Morgan
I could not get Delphi 3.0 to run on a PC with a NexGen 586 processor with 32Mb of RAM and a new installation of Windows 95.
I got "Runtime error 255" when I tried to run it. Borland Help told me "we don't support NexGen processors".

Error during installation: "Severe: C:\windows\system\CFX32.OCX-51"

Description
Reported by Hermann Lehmann
During install a message comes up on the screen:
         'SEVERE '

         ' c:\windows\system\cfx32.ocx-51'

         ' copying program files '

         ' cxf32.ocx '
(although the file is there.) The installation then terminates when ENTER is pressed.
I tried copying the file 'cfx32.ocx' first and then reinstalling. It informs me that a file already exists to which I replied 'dont overwrite'. The installation then comes to completion. On loading DELPHI it comes up with a message :- SEVERE Cannot open component library 'cmplib32.dcl' error 1157 (I cannot find this error message in HELP) (The file IS there.)
I then uninstalled DELPHI on my PC and installed it on another PC succesfully. It also loaded succesfully. Then I tried loading it over the network to my PC. The same problem occurred. To resolve the error code I renamed the file. The file now in all respects is not there and it returns the same error code!!!????
My pc configuartion: ACER 486dx50; windows 95; SCSI 1.2 Gbyte hard drive; Creative CD; Display AcerView 34T. About disk space - 305MB is available at installation. The install was also attempted with no programs running and no networks connected.

Error during installation: "Fatal: C:\WINNT35\System32\VCF132.OCX-51"

Description
Reported by Klaus Imfeld
I tried to install Delphi 2 on a Windows-NT-3.51 workstation. When the installation program is copying the file vcf132.ocx, the system stops and I get the following message:
"Fatal: C:\WINNT35\System32\VCF132.OCX-51"
The installation program terminates and the NT-System deinstalls Delphi 2.
I have enough disk space. What can I do?

I (Reinier Sterkenburg) remember that a colleague of mine had the same problem and we retried to install Delphi several times before we found the solution. Problem now is that I can't remember (or find in the PC log book) what that solution was...
Anybody else solved this problem and does remember the solution? Please let me (us) know!

Full installation onto Iomega Zip 100 removeable disk may fail.

Description
Reported by Ken Downling
Full installation onto Iomega Zip 100 removeable disk failed repeatedly but always while installing help files. Failure point varied between 25% and 66% of installation process. Failure was characterised by the process stalling and generally a system reset was the only way out.
Comment by Burt Pierce:
I had no problems with IOMEGA, but there was no help file involved. Perhaps Delphi is having trouble only when there is a Help file.
Solution / workaround
Workaround was to select a custom install but not deselect any of its options, thus implicitly selecting a full install.
I have no idea why the full install doesn't work and the custom does. This may not be a general problem.

DEMO EXPLORER, READDX.TXT, REGISTRY EDITOR

Description
Reported by Ken Downling
Step 3, end of sentence refers to Step 1. It should refer to step 2.
Step 4 in READDX.TXT may be misleading in some installations of DEMO EXPLORER. The EXPERTS part of the pathname given may not be present.
If it is not present, create it by selecting EDIT / NEW / KEY and assigning the name "Experts" to the new key. Then continue with the next step.

If you don't have administrator privileges on your machine, some problems may occur after installation

Description
Reported by Reinier Sterkenburg
(Possibly this problem is NT only, but Win95 users: tell us about your experiences!)
The Delphi 3 setup program doesn't ask whether you have administrator privileges. But if you haven't got those, the following symptoms may occur:
  1. When you log on the next time (after installation you are not asked to logoff / restart), the whole Delphi 3 program group and its items disappear
  2. Delphi may not be able to find its Help files
  3. The component palette may be empty
Explanation:
Somehow, the installation program fails to add the necessary Registry entries for things like Help files and Component palette.
Solution / workaround
Make sure you have administrator privileges when installing Delphi 3. Then make a 'common' program group and copy all Delphi 3 items to that group. This common group will also be available to you when logged on as 'ordinary user'.
If, after logging on as 'yourself' (not administrator) there still are problems (component palette empty), you can either install another time, but then as 'yourself', or you can manually add some registry values for the Help files and fill the component palette through the IDE.
