RUSSIAN AND SOVIET COINS 1700-1993 by I. RYLOV, V. SOBOLIN, MOSCOW 1994

Language : Russian - English. The preface and reference section are printed once in English then Russian. Listings and tables are primarily in Russian.

Description : This is primarily identified as a price guide and compact reference.

Format : The coinage of the book is seperated into Russian State coins (1700-1917) and State coins of the USSR. The coins of each group are organized by metal, denomination and year. Obverses and reverses of major types and varieties are presented before each type for a denomination. Along with listing by year, obverse / reverse pairs are indentified. Coins are identified by year, variety / features, edge and pricing.

Notes : The book contains prices in roubles and U.S. dollars. Because of inflation and devaluation, the rouble prices are not easily convertable to U.S. dollars. The dollar valuations are said to be based on recent trends in pricing in Russia.

I am struck by the similarity between what this book offers and R. Harris’ book. Both offer a compact listing of types and images.
