NICHOLAS I - WINGS DOWN SERIES - RUBLE VARIETIES

There are two basic eagle varieties for this series of rubles as identified by R. W. Julian in his book "1796-1917 RUSSIAN SILVER COINAGE"

The first variety is used from 1826-1830 and is identifiable by the short length of the ribbon in the eagles claws and the shields upper most point intersecting the crown. The second variety, used 1830-31, has a longer ribbon and the upper most point of the shield does not intesect the crown.

The reverse has several varieties/sub-varieties. The varieties are distinguishable by the number and placement of berries and numerial shapes.
