It seems that most of my life has been spent being educated.
Following kindergarten at the Pickens First Baptist Church, I continued my education in the Pickens County School District, Pickens, S.C., graduating from Pickens High School, where I was salutatorian.
I continued on to Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, with a broad liberal arts education, that included Religion, Psychology, History, and some wonderful experiences in Music.
(Some people are impressed when I tell them a fraternity brother, Keith Lockhart, is now the conductor of the Boston Pops.
My daughter is more impressed that I sat next to Amy Grant in Ancient History at eight o'clock in the morning. I'm personally impressed more by memories of some great times, and a solid base for learning
and enjoying life.)
Then, it was on to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, here in Louisville, KY, where the education was nowhere near as broad. Actually, the pastoral counseling courses and the exposure to people of intellect and conscience, such as Glen Hinson, Dale Moody, Clyde Francisco and others, have added to my abilities through the years. (I'm one of those who is careful to say I was there before the current ethically bankrupt Calvinist administration.)
More recently, The University of Louisville has
provided me with a strong background rounding out my Social Studies and Mathematics qualifications, and the SCHOOL OF EDUCATION has prepared me well to meet the challenges and
opportunities of teaching high school in Kentucky at a time of change and reform. Some of the best experiences came in my student teaching at South Oldham High School in Crestwood, KY. The teachers and staff there both allowed me room to experiment with some different approaches and showed me some fine examples of good teaching that comes with years of experience. I am now beginning an exciting time teaching Mathematics at Central High School Magnet Career Academy, Louisville, KY.
Scattered over the last sixteen years have been many trainings, conferences, seminars, and workshops in the field of Chemical Dependency. I have had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in areas such as group therapy, working with adults and teenagers, and family counseling.
