The
study of people may be the most important part of an education. By understanding
others, we might more nearly understand ourselves. By understanding our
differences, we may end prejudices and stereotypes. By understanding how
we are all alike, we may no longer see events in the world as Somebody
Else's Problem.

There
is a lot of talk about technology in the classroom. Math and Science subject
areas are using the new technology as quickly as it is being made available.
The same technology that can gather data, illustrate Trigonometry functions,
and compute large numbers can also be used to teach a deeper understanding
of Social Studies, especially if we are trying to teach what is relevant
to students and can be used throughout their lives. I think that technology,
while never replacing the value of an imaginative teacher, can only enhance
learning.
Since Social
Studies is really the study of people, what better resource than the Web?
I'm trying to gather as large a collection as possible of Web based resources
for Social Studies teachers and students. I know this will be quite a process,
