co-idiots of the day
Honestly, friends, this is just staggering. I'm utterly mystified that while parents nationwide are being whipped into a panicked frenzy by prominent media coverage of child kidnappings--which are actually actually declining in number--people keep leaving their small children to die in hot cars, as happened recently in Philadelphia and here in Indianapolis.
The attention to stranger abductions, however rare, have prompted parents to take extra precautions, and that's certainly good. Perhaps rather than fanning the misperception that "America's children and parents are also facing a wave of horrible violence," the Bush administration should convene a summit on alerting parents to the genuine danger of leaving their kids in the car on a hot summer day.
