STAFF BROADCAST POSITIONS: EXECUTIVE PRODUCER NEWS WMTW PORTLAND MAINE I relocated to Maine in August 1990, to accept this position with the local ABC affiliate, Eyewitness News. We had the only satellite truck north of Boston, and were frequently deployed for Nightline. Our main facility was thirty miles north of Portland. We were linked with live camera feed and computerized newsroom to that downtown bureau. Departed after new station management arrived to downsize for sale. The Chief Engineer said I was the most engineering literate producer he had ever seen..
Fox Network Special All About Oscar and the nightly Fox News at 10. Received training in Ampex ACE A/B roll editing system for special projects and sweeps series needing high production value. I was also involved in the launching of the syndicated daily satellite feed Fox Entertainment News.

The pioneer of the three hour news block, consisting of separate talent and production teams for 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 PM. This was a life lesson in organization, communication, and co-ordination.
I Produced Los Angeles News Review with Clete Roberts, the station's only live weekly news show. Much flashier than Washington Week, this sixty-minute show brought newspaper, radio, and commercial television reporters together for a lively and popular show. Also produced news Special Reports, and the documentaries Words Within Walls (in a federal prison), and The Funeral Game (the business of dying).
This daily, live, ninety-minute show served as the pilot for the ABC program, Good Morning America. Coming on at 9:00AM this was the most popular morning news style program in Los Angeles, and a must watch for people in the entertainment industry. A sense of fun, some chaos, and an early morning good humor attitude were requirements to work on this show. It also demanded the ability to respond to guests not showing up, keeping cool and complete professionalism.
This year-long project, In Search of the Lost World produced a documentary shown on the ABC network. The examination of Pre-Colombian America included filming throughout America, Mexico, Central America, and South America. Done in the manner of the popular National Geographic specials this was a filmed program that was treated as a feature for television. A great experience that involved interviewing all of the leading experts, and having a helicopter mounted camera in some of the most exotic locations in the world.
My first job in broadcasting was as a week-end graphics assistant at the CBS owned and operated station in Los Angeles. In my five years there I rose through the ranks becoming an editor, buying my first sixteen millimeter camera, making independent documentaries, and then being given the opportunity to originate a show as a producer that was intended to ape a new network show called Sixty Minutes.
