Picasso Etching Available for Your Home!

My research into the piece identifies it as Plate #282 from the "347 Series" Bloch number 1762 . It is also the last etching in the limited edition fine-art book, "La Celestine" which was composed of 66 gravures printed in 1971. There were 350 copies of the book printed. But this etching, 4/50, would have been struck before that. It was created August 18, 1968 (Euro style dating 18.8.68 reversed on the plate), and the Roman I indicates that it was the first of the plates Picasso created on that specific day (there were 6 total).

Somewhere I heard this referred to as part of the "Satyr series," and in conversation with a Picasso specialist named Samuel Kareeni (who sounded like a wonderful gentleman) at the Art Institute in Chicago, he recalled the "uproar" about some of the "sexy ones" that were banned from the first exhibition of this work (the 347 Series) when it was held in Chicago around '69 or so.

The dimensions are (all in inches) Framed - 20 h - 17 1/4w The sheet/paper 12 1/2h - 9 7/8w The image itself 4 5/8h - 3 1/2w. The Bloch reference is 12 x 9 cm (L.282).

This piece was purchased in 1976 in Brentwood California from David and Serena Levy who owned and operated the Serendipity Gallery. While the gallery is no longer in operation, the Levy’s continue to have an excellent reputation in the fine-art world and I have no reason to question the authenticity of this piece. For a $50. fee, a well known Los Angeles art appraiser is willing to provide any necessary certification. This is a special piece of work from perhaps the most significant artist of this century. If you are interested please contact Howard Campbell Retail $10,000. Market value quoted $7500. Reasonable offers considered. Thank you. 7/98
