SKYLINE DRIVE -- SOUTHERN INDIDANA KNOBS

This is a description of the Skyline Drive motorcylcing route. It is a narrow, twisty route, with some terrific views of downtown Louisville and lots of quick curves. The route is unusually narrow, and more than usual caution is appropriate since there ís not much road to share. You may see some sport bikes on this one.

1. Ride north from Louisville on I-65 past the I-265 ring road.

2. Take the next exit, Indiana 60, to the northwest, away from town.

3. Turn left on St. Joe's Road, and travel west toward the line of knobs, passing St. Joseph's church on your right.

4. Proceed straight across Indiana 111 (Grant Line Road), onto Dug Knob Road. Twist your way to the top of the knobs, watching for descending tourists who are returning from Huber's farm and restaurant and who are likely unfamiliar with this curvy section of road.

5. At the top of the ridgeline, take a sharp left onto Skyline Drive. Get ready to have fun; don't scrape your kneepucks. This is a very narrow road -- be careful. Notice the terrific views of the Louisville skyline.

6. This segment is not too hard to follow; just keep the edge of the ridgeline on you left. Don't go down Fairview Knob Road. Eventually, you will bear to the right away from the views and through the antenna farm, and come to an intersection.

7. Turn right on Moser Knob Road.

8. After descending a hill, youíll have a multiple choice intersection. The hardest left goes onto South Skyline Drive. While that ís a good road, even better is the other, less hard left onto Campion, a fine motorcycle road with lots of curves with excellent lines of sight.

9. At St. Mary's church on Campion, turn left (it's either John Lowe Road or St. Mary's Road; I'm not sure). Follow it through the curves, passing Spickert Knob road on your left (which is where you could come in from South Skyline).

10. At the four-way stop, turn left on Scottsville Road, and go down to Floydís Knobs. Here, a left on the old Paoli Pike will take you down the hill to I-265, and a right will take you over to Highway 150, the new Paoli Pike.

It's possible to connect this route with another route down past Polly's Freeze and onto more ridegtop riding.
