General. This is a rolling, enjoyable 40 mile ride. Large parts of it are also found on the 65 mile Ninevah route. Note: there are no stores on this route, so carry ample water and a Powerbar. The main features are long, fairly gentle runs along two remote creeks. Road quality sometimes is pretty darn good, too.
Maps. Delorme at pp. 36-37. County maps needed are Shelby and Anderson Counties; Franklin County is also helpful.
Markings. This route was marked for an August 15, 1999 Louisville Bicycle Club ride, using blue "40" markings. It now starts from the Flying J truck stop at exit 43.
Route Details
Start at either Waddy truck stop at exit 43 on Interstate 64. Leave the truck stop and proceed south on KY 395 very briefly, just to the end of the Buzzard Roost truck stop property.
Left on Bardstown Trail immediately past Buzzard Roost truck stop.
Right onto KY 1472 at stop sign in Grafenberg.
Left on Crawford Lane. There is no sign here. It's the first paved left in Anderson County. In September, 1998, the route was marked here with a "40" marking.
Right at stop sign in Avenstoke and over tracks.
Left (south) immediately over the tracks on KY 1875.
Right on KY 512 at stop sign.
Right on KY 395 in Birdie, very briefly.
Left (immediate) on Timber Creek.
Bear left at "Y" intersection; stay on Timber Creek (follow "N" markings).
Right at stop sign onto KY 44/53.
Right at bottom of fast hill just at Spencer Co. line onto Crooked Creek; another immediate right to recross the creek.
At ambiguous intersection, stay left on Crooked Creek. [ed.: note -- this means it's a funky connection, neither purely "Y" nor "T"] -- don't go right on Mudlick Hollow
Left at stop sign on KY 395.
Right on 1472.
First left from 1472 on paved road onto Ditto Rd (no sign).
Right at T intersection onto KY 395 and return to truck stop of your choice.
