Work Experience:
May 2003 - present
Owner, Hatch Creative, LLC, Louisville, Kentucky
Win.Net decided to spin off their web development department, and I started my own company. Being the sole designer, I learned the in's and out's of running a small design shop. I did billing, design, client meetings, and everything else in the day-to-day operations.

July 2001 - May 2003
Web Development Manager / Graphic Designer, Win.Net, Louisville, Kentucky
I was responsible for updating and creating websites for clients, as well as our own site which I re-designed twice. I was also the in-house graphic designer for billing inserts and other advertising. I acted as the Web Development Manager for 4 months, making the department profitable for the first time in 2 years. I became familiar with iHTML, MySQL, PHP, and got very familiar with the UNIX and Windows 2000/NT Web Servers.

January 2000 - July 2001
Webmaster/Graphic Designer, Wyvern Limited, Louisville, Kentucky
Responsible for daily updates and maintenance to our website (www.australianracing.com), which included: two site re-designs, added/modified pages, edited CGI scripts, created graphics, set up a list server, and implemented an e-commerce solution. I also designed posters for national distribution. Also acting as the in-house IT manager, I was responsible for switching from an ISDN connection to an ADSL line for our internet access, as well as updating hardware and software on a network of 7 Macs and 2 PC’s.

November 1999 - January 2000
Pre-Press Operator/Designer, Allegra Print and Imaging, Louisville, Kentucky
Designed and prepared forms, business cards, brochures, letterheads, etc. Also implemented a cataloging system for our archived files and acted as the in-house "tech-guy".

May 1999 - November 1999
Technical Assistant, Art & Type, Louisville, Kentucky
As a technical assistant/consultant/web developer, I recommend and install various hardware and software solutions for our clients, some of which include: National Center for Family Literacy, Louisville Science Center, The American Red Cross, H&S Ace Hardware, Plaschke Design Group, Black Sheep Advertising, Schneider-Demuth Advertising, Baach Creative Services, Art Print and Publishing, Editorial Services Company, and Winston Industries.
Some of my accomplishments include:

  • Developed two websites for H&S Ace Hardware (www.x-mascity.com and www.poolcity.com). H&S has maintained constant Internet traffic and sales from these two sites.
  • Created an extensive data collecting program designed in Filemaker Pro for the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) named “FLAGS”. This application allows NCFL to collect information from across the nation for each family literacy site. “FLAGS” gathers more than 2,000 pieces of information from each participant in the program which they used to enter manually. I also developed the installer program for both Macintosh and Windows, designed the packaging, implemented and wrote on-line help pages (www.famlit.org/flags).
  • Developed two secure websites for NCFL that allow people to sign up on-line for family literacy trainings. The website is driven by Filemaker Pro. The URL is www.famlit.org (links are available on the home page under “Training & Technical Assistance” and “Register On-Line”). This site receives approximately 185 hits per day.
  • Recommended and installed a Macintosh G3 publishing system and a SNAP! server for Art Print and Publishing. I also trained their staff in Photoshop 5.5 and Freehand 8. Their productivity has tremendously increased due to the replacement of their older Macintosh system and the installation of the latest design software.
  • In addition to the above projects, I also provide technical support, train our clients’ employees in various software and hardware, carry out graphic design work, implement backup strategies, setup remote access, as well as perform monthly maintenance.

October 1997 - May 1999
Asst. Art Director/Designer, IT Administrator, Crane Productions, Inc., Louisville, Kentucky
Designed direct mail pieces, menus, business cards and various other creatives for clients such as Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, KFC, Red Hot-n-Blue as well as other national and local businesses. I was also responsible for maintaining and installing an ISDN internet connection, mail server and other networking tasks. In addition, my responsibilities included updating our web site, keeping our automated fax back server current, recommending and installing software and hardware, performing backups, keeping track of serial numbers, training co-workers to utilize new software and hardware, along with maintaining daily technical tasks.

September 1996 - October 1997
Computer Services, Kinko’s (downtown location), Louisville, Kentucky
Designed flyers, invitations, business cards, letterheads, brochures, booklets, etc. for both corporate and non-corporate accounts. We had a mixture of Macs and PC’s, an oversize color printer, a RIP attached to a color copier, and other peripherals on a LAN with an ISDN router. I installed the network, router and hub, and I was always volunteering to fix “sad Macs” and sick PC’s. I was acting manager for two months while the manager was on maternity leave.

May 1996 - September 1996
3rd Shift Key-Op, Kinko’s (downtown location), Louisville, Kentucky
Usually working alone, I operated a Xerox 5090, Xerox 5100, misc. black and white/color copiers and various other auxiliary equipment. Using the knowledge of production I gained, helped in laying out documents in the Computer Services Department.
