Your invited to
Fort Duffield
In Historic
West Point, Kentucky

Greetings from The Civil War Union Fort Duffield, where the Salt River empties into the mighty Ohio. The small City of West Point was the site of General William T. Sherman's supply base in the fall of 1861. The fort, virtually impregnable , some 300 feet above the bustling river port city was part of a complex military installation . No doubt Fort Duffield played an invaluable part in holding Kentucky for the Union.

A special invitation is extended to our Confederate Brothers to participate in our Living Histories and Events.
Our brothers in gray are invited to present the point of view of the Confederate soldier in Kentucky during the turbulent time in our history. For the civilian reenactor, this is an opportunity to portray the divided sentiments of the people of West Point during this forced occupation. Unlike many towns where battles took place and the war moved on, the City of West Point was occupied by northern troops, its citizens treated as the enemy, with a type of martial law observed for most of the war.

Coming Events at Fort Duffield
The Fort Duffield Heritage Committee is  sponsoring the following living history programs at Fort Duffield in 1998. These living histories are an important part of the fund raising for the maintenance and continuing restoration of Kentucky's oldest and best preserved earthen fortification. You are cordially invited to join us for a living history weekend or to volunteer for hands on work at the fort by contacting Vice Chairman Bill Morris at (502) 922-4574.
